Charlotte Works

Charlotte Works is the workforce development board for Charlotte and Mecklenburg County. Through collaborations with business, government, education and other nonprofits, Charlotte Works has developed nationally recognized workforce programs, connected workforce resources to the K-12 system, provided local talent with the tools and resources to successfully gain employment and worked with businesses to help create local jobs. Created as the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Workforce Development Board by the federal Workforce Investment Act of 1998, today, with a $7.5 million budget and more than 40 employees, we operate three NCWorks Certified Career Centers in Mecklenburg County. In 2014, Charlotte Works served nearly 825 businesses and hosted more than 91,000 job-seeker visits.

In 2015 Goodwill announced plans to change the trajectory of poverty in our region by building the Goodwill Opportunity Campus, a state-of-the-art facility in west Charlotte that provides the area’s most comprehensive collection of resources and opportunities for individuals facing multiple barriers to employment. The Goodwill Opportunity Campus benefits job seekers by offering a central location for coordinated services and helps Goodwill increase long-term support for clients in their journey to earn a family-sustaining wage.
